FDA okays minimally invasive surgical kits
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has given approval to a Connecticut company to market its surgery kit for use in laparoscopic procedures, according to the Associated Press.
Surgeons can use the kits, made by North Haven, CT-based Covidien Ltd., to perform procedures through a single incision in a patient’s belly button. The SILS Procedure Kits are scheduled to be available this summer, the AP reported on May 20.
According to the article, Covidien also plans to produce other custom kits to be used in gynecologic, urologic, and bariatric surgery.
