Online physician consults growing, some insurers reimburse for them

Do your privileges allow practitioners to provide patient consults via the internet? More physicians are taking advantage of this online option, especially since insurer like Aetna and Cigna began paying for them nationwide in January, according to a July 21 article on SunSentinel.com.
Generally, the physicians taking advantage of the online consults are younger and more tech-savvy, according to the article. Online consults are one way for physicians to reduce the number of patients they see in the office. Nevertheless, RelayHealth, a popular online consultation system, told SunSentinel.com about one-third of its e-consults end with the doctor requesting a face-to-face consult with the patient.
